10 schools compete in city’s Drum & Lyre tilt

Ten (10) elementary schools in the city will compete today for the title in the 10th Drum and Lyre Competition, a city-government initiated activity in line with the Tourism Week celebration set from September 20-26.

The competition will be held at 3 p.m. at the Paseo del Mar near the Fort Pilar.

Participants include the drum and lyre groups from the Western Mindanao State University Integrated Laboratory School; Sangali Elementary School; Lunzuran Elementary School; Boalan Elementary School; Tetuan Central Elementary School; Ateneo de Zamboanga University; Sta. Maria Central School; Baliwasan Central School; West Central School and the Ayala Central School.

The Tourism week celebration is organized by the City Mayor’s Office through the Tourism and Promotions Division and is intended to generate awareness on the city’s potentials as a tourist hub.

Other activities lined up for the celebration are Libre Paseo from Sept. 23-24 with participants coming from elementary schools in the 11 school districts of the city and the Ayuda Limpiesa- Year 6 on Sept. 26 starting at 7 a.m. at the main public market and major thoroughfares of the city.

The observance of Tourism Week is simultaneous in all other cities and provinces in the country.
