City Health Officer Rodel Agbulos has urged the public anew to remain calm but watchful of their health amid the increasing number of cases of influenza A (H1N1) registered in the city.

This, as the CHO pursues without let up its information dissemination campaign on the prevention and control of A (HIN1), upper respiratory tract infections, dengue and other prevalent diseases.

The Department of Health (DOH) yesterday afternoon reported that the number of A(H1N1) cases have soared to 24 in Zamboanga and that results of several other swab tests are still pending.

Agbulos said personnel from the CHO and DOH have seen those afflicted with the disease and have conducted case tracing activities.

All of those tested positive of A(H1N1) are already well weeks before the results of the swab tests arrived in the city.

Agbulos said upper respiratory tract infection or simple human flu cases have also increased because of the abnormal weather condition.

“It is obvious that the A(H1N1) is now on the community level,” the health official said. “What is necessary is for people to always heed good health and sanitation practices to prevent from being afflicted with the disease.”

To stay away from diseases, these are some health reminders for the public: have enough sleep, avoid stress, eat healthy and nutritious foods and take Vitamin C, maintain a clean body, cover nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, wash hands frequently and immunize against human influenza.

On the other hand, Agbulos said people should be also be wary against the mosquito-borne disease dengue which has also soared the past days.
