At 73, Zambo probao y aprobao—Celso
Mayor Celso Lobregat said Zamboanga City is continuously fostering growth and development which is a testimony that Zamboanga is rife in accomplishments and performance and that Zamboanga is tried and tested.
Lobregat said this, as he urged Zamboangueños to renew the resolve “to strive harder and work together to build the best legacy for our future Zamboangueños” in celebration of the 73rd Dia de Zamboanga or Charter Anniversary today, February 26.
It is a double holiday today, as Malacanang has issued Proclamation 2005 declaring February 26 a non-working holiday in Zamboanga to allow residents to fittingly observe the Dia de Zamboanga. The proclamation is in response to Mayor Lobregat’s request.
The Dia de Zamboanga celebration coincides with the observance of Mauluddin Nabi, the birth anniversary of prophet Mohammad, the prophet of Islam. The Muslim community has scheduled religious activities in mosques and other places of worship.
“Aptly described in this occasion’s theme, “Zamboanga: Probao y Aprobao”, Zamboanga City has invariably emerged triumphant in every adversity that came its way over the past years. With characteristic strength and determination of the Zamboangueños coupled with sound fiscal management, the city rose to every challenge and accomplished unparalleled feats,” the mayor’s Dia de Zamboanga message read.
At 73 years, he said, Zamboanga City “continues to foster growth and development—a testimony that Zamboanga is rife with accomplishments and performance and that Zamboanga is tried and tested.”
Lobregat stressed that the unwavering support and cooperation of all sectors and the administration’s sound fiscal management enabled Zamboanga to rise above all challenges that came along the way.
The Dia de Zamboanga marks the day when the city became a chartered city in 1937.
Meanwhile, former Sen. Franklin Drilon is arriving in the city this morning to be the keynote speaker in the commemorative program at the grandstand this afternoon.
Upon arrival, Drilon is expected to guest in a radio program over DXKZ early this morning, afterwhich he will visit the Justice Hall, being the former Secretary of the Department of Justice. From there he will proceed to City Hall for a courtesy call on Mayor Lobregat at 10 a.m. today afterwhich he will meet media members in a press conference. (Sheila Covarrubias)
