Mayor Celso Lobregat announced yesterday that the City Permits and Licensing Division will open its doors for business permits renewals starting tomorrow, October 1st.

He said applicants are required to present the original copies of their 2009 licenses as basis for renewal.

To avoid the queue and long wait from filing at the last minute, Lobregat urged owners and managers of the different business establishments in the city to start processing their applications for renewal the earliest time possible.

Application forms can be secured from the Permits and Licensing Division located at the ground floor of City Hall.

Permits and licenses form part of the local taxes. By sources of revenue, aside from the Internal Revenue Allocation (IRA) collection, the local taxes also contributed in the revenue collection in 2008 at P321.9 million. And based on percentage increase, permits and licenses have recorded the highest increase at almost 26 percent from P18.4 million in 2007 to P23.1 million in 2008.

The City Treasurer’s Office attributed the increase to the continuous inspection of business establishments that caused the city to uncover additional businesses of existing taxpayers and discovered new ones.

The CTO’s accomplishment report further cited the intensified collection of taxes and service charges also attributed to the increased revenue collection last year in addition to the adherence to policies set forth on the assessment of business taxes. (Vic Larato)
