The continuous implementation of the city’s projects and programs especially the delivery of basic services to the people remain the center of concentration of Mayor Celso Lobregat even as the campaign season for the May 10 elections has already started.

“We will remain focused on our job,” Mayor Lobregat said when asked about preparations for the May 10 polls specifically concerning support to any presidential candidate.

Lobregat said his energies are focused on the job he was elected to do, that is to implement projects and programs that will impact on the lives of the residents. The campaign period for local candidates will start March 26, which means that the present administration will have to concentrate its time to the implementation of the many projects it has set out to do, he said.

With regards to projects, he clarified that all ongoing projects are not affected by the election ban, which will start March 26.

The mayor shrugged off propaganda being spread by his perennial critics that his administration is concentrating in the implementation of more projects now that it is election period. “The projects that we implement every year have always been record breaking and we attribute this to fiscal management,” he said.

The mayor in his state of the city report rolled out P2 billion worth of projects implemented from 2007 to 2009 which had impact on the lives of the constituents specifically those in the far flung barangays.

Meanwhile, the mayor, who chairs the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) party in Zamboanga, said the group has not decided yet on which presidential candidate to support in the forthcoming elections. He admitted though that most of the presidential candidates are his personal friends and that all of them are seeking the support and endorsement of the local LDP.

“These presidential candidates know that we filed as LDP but they are still seeking our endorsement they want us to be with them and them to be with us,” he said stressing that his party is unlike other political groups which are party shopping.

He added that the party will announce its presidential candidate at the proper time. “But for now, we continue to perform our tasks as what we are mandated to do.” (Sheila Covarrubias)
