Celso reaffirms support to barangays, youths

Mayor Celso Lobregat has reaffirmed his continuous support to the barangays and the youths, as he stressed the vital role played by the two sectors in the development and progress of Zamboanga City.

Mayor Lobregat Sunday addressed barangay officials from the 98 barangays, first during the assembly of the Federation of Barangay Kagawads of Zamboanga (FEBARKAZA) and later during the advance Christmas party he and District I Congresswoman Beng Climaco tendered for both barangay chiefs and kagawads at the Garden Orchid Convention Center.

Lobregat said his administration has initiated numerous projects covering all sectors— education, health, peace and security, social services and agriculture among others in the different barangays in the city since the start of his term in 2004.

Todate, projects initiated during the Lobregat incumbency reach over P2 billion.

He stressed that the city’s support and assistance to the barangays will continue without let up if only to ensure that all residents, specifically the marginalized sector will be given access to needed government service.

School buildings, health centers, barangay halls, farm to market roads, shore protection, irrigation and riprap projects are among the most significant infrastructure projects implemented in the different barangays in both districts from 2004 todate.

The city also embarks in the construction and rehabilitation of police sub-stations and fire sub-stations in far flung barangays to ensure the safety and security of people.

All these will continue, Mayor Lobregat stressed for the city government is exerting all efforts to ensure the wellbeing of its constituents. “We are also pursuing the effort to protect the integrity and sovereignty not only of Zamboanga City but of Mindanao and the entire Republic”.

Members of the Liga ng mga Barangay led by Councilor Abdurahman Nuño, were in full force during the party tendered jointly by Mayor Lobregat and Cong. Climaco Sunday. The FEBARKAZA, led by Art Onrubia had its 12th general assembly and outreach program also Sunday.

Meanwhile, in an address before members of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation at the Inland Resort in Boalan, also on Sunday, the mayor also cited the very essential role played by the youth sector in nation building.

The city government, he said, is concerned and continues to be concerned about the welfare of the youths, touted as the future of the city.

The mayor urged the youths to be aware of the improvements being undertaken by the present administration and to actively take part in issues and projects that impact the lives of the people.

Councilor Joefel de las Peñas, president of the SK Federation in the city initiated the assembly for SK members to discuss important matters as well as assess the accomplishments of the group during the past months. (Sheila Covarrubias)
