Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday afternoon convened leaders and members of greek-lettered fraternity groups in the city including college and university officials to discuss the numerous frat-related incidents in the city.

Officials from the local police led by Sr. Supt. Amado Corpus and military led by Task Force Zamboanga Chief Col. Santiago Baluyot also attended the meeting held at the City Hall conference room to brief the group on the developments of investigations being conducted on the said incidents.

Among the participants to the meeting were representatives from the Zeta Phi Omega, Tau Gamma Phi, Alpha Sigma Phi, AKRHO and other greek lettered fraternity groups.

Mayor Lobregat urged the different fraternity groups to redivert their energies to productive activities like blood letting, outreach programs or other meaningful actions.

“Please divert your energies towards productive activities while your energies are running high. We will even guide you towards these productive undertakings,” the mayor told the people attending the meeting.

As the chief executive of the city, Lobregat said he has to take active part in helping diffuse the tension between and among the different greek lettered fraternity groups in the city.

Police authorities yesterday enumerated the different incidents that are considered related to fraternity woes, particularly the two incidents that occurred along P. Lorenzo Street near the Sunburst Restaurant last Saturday, August 8.

Barangay chairmen of barangays concerned also took part in the meeting.

Mayor Lobregat called on the fraternity groups to let justice take its course and not to take the law into their own hands stressing that such incidents tarnish the image of the city.

“It is the city of Zamboanga especially the innocent people that will be affected by these incidents,” the chief executive added. (Sheila Covarrubias)
