Celso thanks police, military for orderly Fiesta

Mayor Celso Lobregat has highly praised the police and the military for the orderly and peaceful conduct of the different activities for the 2009 Zamboanga Hermosa Festival which kicked off October 1st leading up to the October 12 feast day of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar.

At the same time, Mayor Lobregat expressed appreciation to the different agencies—government and non-government; people’s organizations, schools, private companies, civic organizations and all sectors that helped contribute to the success of this year’s Fiesta Hermosa.

The diverse activities during the 2-weeklong Hermosa Festival were effectively staged not only in terms of participation but also in the aspect of law and order.

The major activities included the Cosechas de Zamboanga, the float parade and street dance competitions, the sailboat race called Regatta at the Boulevard, the 3rd Wow Sardinas at the R.T. Lim Boulevard, the float parade and the street dance competitions as well as the main program at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in Baliwasan, and the grand highlight yesterday, October 12 which was the procession and the High Mass at the Fort Pilar Shrine.

Hordes of people participated in the different outdoor activities specially the Regatta, Wow Sardinas and the float parade and street dance competitions and the religious activities at the Fort Pilar Shrine.

Mayor Lobregat specifically thanked City Police OIC Director Col. Amador Corpus and Task Force Zamboanga Chief Col. Santiago Baluyot for the effective implementation of security measures during the different activities.

He said members of the local police and military—both uniformed and plainclothesmen—did a very fine job in maintaining law and order despite the many challenges that beset them.

The police and military effectively implemented the Temporary Traffic scheme in roads leading to the Fort Pilar shrine during the fiesta.
On the other hand, the chief executive also lauded all the agencies, the schools, the barangay folks, government employees, non-government organizations and all the sectors concerned –for participating in the different activities for the Fiesta Hermosa.

He likewise lauded the men and women who worked hard to put Fiesta Hermosa together so passionately, the radio clubs, the different city departments and all agencies concerned.

The mayor also expressed appreciation to the 98 barangays of the city for their active participation in the Wow Zamboanga cultural presentations at the Paseo del Mar, the canning factories and business establishments and all other sectors for their support and assistance during the different activities.
