The City Civil Registrar’s Office now boasts of a new building, a 2-storey, fully furnished edifice that will further accelerate the delivery service to the Zamboanga community.
Mayor Celso Lobregat, under whose administration the project was constructed and funded, led other city officials in turning over the P13.1 million building to City Civil Registrar Atty. Eric Elias Saturday morning.
“This building is a testimony that we are here to continue the visions and missions of Mam Caling”, Mayor Lobregat said in response to a message by Atty. Elias, who said that the project was first conceived during the time of the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat in 2003.
Elias said the late Mrs. Lobregat had instructed City Engineer Luis Despalo to prepare the plans and estimates for the construction of a new building for the City Civil Registrar’s office. However, her untimely demise early 2004 put the plan on hold until a year ago when Mayor Celso Lobregat, during his birthday party celebration, announced that construction of the building will be underway.
According to Lobregat, because of good financial condition the city government is able to construct infrastructure projects for better delivery of services and to bring about growth and development.
The building has a floor area of 790 square meters and has ample space to accommodate the increasing number of clients.
“If you listen to our noisy critics they would say that we’re doing nothing good, pero falta el dia para inagura el maga proyekto. Do you ever hear them saying good things about the Paseo del Mar where thousands of people go everyday?” the mayor said.
Prior to the inauguration of the Civil Registrar’s Office, the mayor also unveiled a picturesque building, the Café del Sol, a stall at the Paseo del Mar, managed by businessman Pocholo Soliven. The new establishment will further boost the new park that teems with people day in and day out.
In the afternoon of Saturday, the mayor also unveiled e.AXS Communications, Inc., the first ever call center in Western Mindanao.
Joining the mayor during the inauguration of the City Civil Registrar’s Office were Councilors Lilia Nuño, Lynet Abarro, Rudy Lim, Eddie Saavedra, Rey Candido, Joefel de las Peñas, Cesar Iturralde, Nonong Guingona and Luis Biel III; department heads, representatives from the business sector, City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr., Chief executive Assistant Ller Natividad and representatives from other sectors.
Meanwhile, Atty. Elias and his staff thanked Mayor Lobregat for pursuing the project and vowed to further enhance service to the people.
Elias expressed elation that the new building is being inaugurated at a time when the office is celebrating its 25th year anniversary. (Sheila Covarrubias)
