Zamboangueños will have another exciting and picturesque landmark to while away their time, as the city today opens to the public the Paseo de Jardin Parkwalk with foodstalls at the Jardin Maria Clara Lobregat in Pasonanca.

Mayor Celso Lobregat will lead the formal opening and blessing ceremonies that will start at 5:30 p.m. which will be highlighted by a fireworks display and an open air concert featuring the KM 6 band and the Westmincom band.

The Paseo de Jardin Parkwalk with foodstalls is the second landmark to be opened for public entertainment in a week’s time. Last week, Mayor Lobregat also unveiled the Paseo del Mar, considered to be the local version of the Manila de Bay, though it is overlooking the sea.

Mayor Lobregat said the Paseo de Jardin parkwalk will be another amusement destination for friends, families and groups.

The development of parks and gardens is one of the 10 priorities of the Lobregat administration under the City Development Strategy. It is intended to help preserve the culture and develop and protect the natural resources.

The development of Jardin Maria Clara Lobregat that includes the park walk with foodstalls and the circumferential road inside the park itself amounts to P16.4 million and is undertaken by a private construction firm.

The park walk is constructed with 7 buildings, two of which are assigned as comfort rooms while the 5 are divided into 11 food stalls that will be occupied by concessionaires who will offer variety of food products.

Like the Paseo del Mar, the Paseo de Jardin parkwalk is designed with global lights that are expected to attract the public.

The open air concert will be held for two days. On Saturday, the concert will feature KM6 band and the Exodus band.

Meanwhile, the Paseo del Mar near the Fort Pilar in Rio Hondo has become a magnet for all types of people since it was opened last Friday.

People enjoy the global lights, the scenic view and the variety of food products offered for sale by the concessionaires.

The operation of both Paseo del Mar and Paseo del Jardin parkwalk are covered by Council ordinances. (Sheila Covarrubias)
