Chabacano Christmas chorale tilt winners bared

Christmas is indeed in the air as students from various elementary and secondary schools in the city competed against each other in the Chabacano Christmas Chorale competition which formed part of the 2009 Pascua na Zamboanga.

Dubbed as “Canciones de Pascua”, the chorale competition, initiated by the city government through the City Tourism Office, was staged on December 11 at the scenic Paseo del Mar with 8 participating elementary schools.

The Western Mindanao State University Integrated Grade School emerged the grand winner with Pilar College winning second place and Ayala Central School was third. Zamboanga Hermosa Youth Academy and Talon-Talon Elementary School bagged fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Aside from trophies, the winning groups each received cash prizes of P12,000 (1st), P7,000 (2nd), P5,000 (3rd), P3,000 (4th) and P2,000 (5th).

Last Sunday, December 13, Jonathan Beltran of Sta. Maria Central School grabbed the Best Dressed in Santa Claus Costume plum, besting 18 other participants and taking home the P6,000 cash prize.

Rounding the top five were Shariff Razzag Julkipli of WMSU Integrated Laboratory School (2nd), Julliane Mamaed of Recodo Elementary School (3rd), Mark Christian Orotea of Montessori de Zamboanga (4th) and Aljin Klein Mojares of Tetuan Central School (5th).

Canciones de Pascua and Best Dressed Santa Claus Costume are part of the Pascua na Zamboanga, the most celebrated festival organized by the city government every year. (City Hall PIO)
