Two poor but deserving college students have been identified beneficiaries of the city’s education program using Alay Lakad funds.
Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday afternoon personally handed over the educational aid to Abraham Bahandi and Rodelin Sumicad—all of Mampang and identified by Social Welfare Officers assigned in their area.
Bahandi is a General Engineering student at the Western Mindanao State University while Sumicad is taking up Bachelor of Science in Math at the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College.
Mayor Lobregat congratulated the two beneficiaries for having been chosen to be recipients of the program. He likewise encouraged them to make good use of the assistance given to them and to be models to other youths.
Social worker Indahling Schuck, assigned with City Social Welfare Office-4 based in Tetuan said the two students were selected on the basis of their being indigents and active members of an organized youth association.
Each of the student received P5,000 assistance that will help them defray expenses for their enrolment and matriculation during the first and second semesters.
Recall that city government in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and host club Junior Chamber International Philippines (JCI) Zamboanga Chapter last year successfully conducted the Alay Lakad, a fund raising campaign intended for poor but deserving youths in the city.
The conduct of the Alay Lakad is pursuant to a presidential proclamation.
