City sets Ma’am Caling’s 6th death anniversary
The city government has set activities in commemoration of the 6th death anniversary of the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat, the city’s 6th and only woman mayor and mother of Mayor Celso Lobregat, on Saturday, January 2.
The commemorative activities will kick off with a mass at 3 p.m. on Saturday followed by a motorcade to the Jardin Maria Clara in Pasonanca where a floral offering and a simple program will follow.
Mayor Celso Lobregat will lead city officials and employees, representatives from the different national agencies and personnel from the police and military in the different activities aimed to perpetuate the memory of the late mayor, who was looked upon by the Zamboangueños as the mother of the city, protector and benefactor.
City Health Officer Rodelin Agbulos will give the opening remarks during the program that will follow the floral offering. Red Cross Administrator Vic Liozo and District II councilor Rey Candido will give their individual thoughts on the only woman mayor in their “Recuerdos de Ayer”.
Mayor Lobregat, the eldest son of the late mayor, will give the response. District I Councilor Rudy Lim will give the closing remarks.
A noted national journalist Evelyn Macairan in one of her write-ups described the late Mrs. Lobregat as “perhaps the most endearing person to be the mayor of Zamboanga would be Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat. Aside from holding the distinction of the first woman mayor of the city, she is looked up by to by most Zamboangeños as the mother of the city, its protector and benefactor”.
“Simple, yet very dignified and glamorous, Mayor Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat exudes the grace and sophistication of the modern Filipina woman- intelligent, firm, committed, loving and above all honest and sincere. To the Zamboangueños she will always remain the good Samaritan in a mascota dress, a benefactor for the unfortunate, a mother, and a rallying point for Zamboagueño identity,” the writer said.
