City Health Officer Dr. Rodelin Agbulos yesterday called on every Zamboangueño to continue vigilance against A(H1N1) but stressed that there is noting to panic for as long as residents heed the preventive measures.

Agbulos said this, as the Department of Health has reported additional 2 cases of A(H1N1) bringing the total number of cases in Zamboanga City to 5.

He said eating healthy foods and practicing good personal hygiene will protect anyone from Influenza A(H1N1).

The 2 latest cases involve a young boy and a woman, who were confirmed to have been infected by the said viral disease through results of their swab sample tests.

The boy is in the same class as and is believed to have contracted the disease from the city’s first confirmed A(H1N1) case, an Ateneo de Zamboanga University grade schooler. Meanwhile, the 31-year old female has a history of travel to Egypt, which also has reported cases of the highly infectious disease.

Last Friday, July 3, two more cases, in addition to the first one reported July 1st, were bared by the DOH. The cases involved a 68-year old woman who had a history of travel to California while the other one was a 58-year old resident of Sibuco who is working in Makati City but who consulted with doctors at the Zamboanga City Medical Center last June 22.

Meanwhile, Mayor Celso Lobregat reiterated his appeal for the public to remain calm but continue heeding steps to prevent from contracting the A(H1N1), a viral infection.

He said people with the confirmed cases have recovered from the disease weeks before results of the swab tests were revealed.

He added that the city government and health authorities are doing everything possible to prevent and control the disease. (Claudine Uniana)
