American Ambassador Kristie Kenney, adopted daughter of Zamboanga, visits Zamboanga City today, her last official visit before she departs for another assignment this month.

Ambassador Kenney will keynote the turn over of the newly-completed Tetuan-Guiwan footbridge, a project undertaken by the USAID’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao.

City caretaker and administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. will represent Mayor Celso Lobregat in assisting Ambassador Kenney in the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon as well as inauguration of the bridge.

The Tetuan-Guiwan footbridge is the 27th infrastructure project implemented by the American government through the GEM program in Zamboanga City. Last July 6, 2009, the Ambassador together with Mayor Lobregat unveiled another infrastructure project in Tugbungan.

Ambassador Kenney is expected to depart for another assignment in another country this month of January.

While in the city, the ambassador is also expected to grace other USAID-GEM initiated projects to be held at the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZCSCMST) and other venues.

The ambassador is expected to arrive from Manila at 7:20 this morning and will be welcomed by City caretaker Orendain and members of the City Council, USAID officials and other dignitaries. (Sheila Covarrubias)
