Lobregat joins Eid’l Adja feast
To fittingly celebrate Eid’l Adha, Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday joined the Filipino Turkish Tolerance School (FTTS) in distributing beef meat to indigent families and various military and police units as well as the jail center.
The distribution of the beef meat has become a tradition of the FTTS, led by School Director Mehmet Cetin during the celebration of Hariraya Hajj as a show of gratitude to Zamboangueños.
During the occasion, the Turkish community in Pitogo initiates the slaughtering of cattle as a form of sacrifice. The meat products are distributed to thousands of indigent families pre-screened by the School in coordination with barangay officials in selected communities.
Mayor Lobregat was allotted 250 bags of beef meat which he distributed at the City Reformatory Center, Divisoria Police Sub-station, Tetuan Police Sub-station, Sta. Maria Police-Station and Fire Station, Western Mindanao Command, Malagutay Task Force Check point, Edwin Andrews Air Base (EAAB) in Sta. Maria and the Social Development Center (SDC).
The mayor expressed gratitude to the management of the FTTS for sustaining the outreach activity and extolled the same for helping promote relations between the Muslims and Christians in the city.
Mayor Lobregat was in the company of Councilors Cesar IturraldeRey Candido, Rudy Lim and his brother Jomar, when he joined in the Eid’l Adha celebration in Pitogo and the consequent distribution of the meat products.
The celebration of Eid’l Adha is the feast of sacrifice or the culmination of the Islamic World’s Hariraya Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
This year, hundreds of cows were slaughtered by the Turkish community and benefited close to 5,000 indigent families. (Sheila Covarrubias)
