Roca replaces ‘Eling’
Seasoned broadcaster and committed kagawad of barangay Sinunuc Mario Roca will be the new executive assistant on barangay affairs vice Felizardo “Eling” de las Peñas, who passed away July 19 due to heart complications last week.
Mayor Celso Lobregat made the announcement yesterday but stressed that Roca’s appointment will take effect August 1st, as the Sinunuc councilman is set to resign from his post by July 31st.
Lobregat said the choice was based on Roca’s qualification as a former barangay chairman and vice-president of Liga ng mga Barangay.
“Aside from this, he has very good work ethics, is very sincere, loyal and straightforward,” the mayor said.
Roca was a broadcaster of a local AM station in the early 80’s before he was elected chairman of Barangay Sinunuc, a post he held for several years due to his efficient and effective service to the village. In 2007, he ran for a seat in the city council but lost.
As Executive Assistant for Barangay Affairs, Roca will assist the chief executive on barangay matters and will be the conduit of the barangays and the city government.
De las Peñas, who held the post starting in 1998 during the time of the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat until he passed away last July 15.
Mayor Celso Lobregat retained de las Peñas as executive assistant on barangay affairs because of his skills in barangay governance, commitment to service and loyalty to the administration.
