Residents and barangay officials of Vitali and Quiniput in the east coast of this city on Saturday expressed their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the city government under the administration of Mayor Celso Lobregat for the newly inaugurated health infrastructure projects amounting to almost P4 million.

Barangay Chairman Segundino Gregorio of Vitali and his kagawads together with the barangay health workers and community leaders gathered in full force Saturday afternoon as a show of support to Mayor Lobregat as he unveiled the barangay’s new health center amounting to P1.2 million, featuring a modern design befitting of a wellness center or “Sentrong Sigla.”

In his message, Lobregat emphasized that the delivery of basic health services is one of his administration’s priorities. Hence, he initiated the construction of health centers in the barangays in addition to increasing the monthly allowances of barangays health workers and nutrition scholars to P1,000 each effective next year.

“We are capable of doing this and more projects because of our sound fiscal management. We have the money and still we have several projects,” Lobregat said to a roaring applause of approval by the people.

Very soon, the chief executive announced, Vitali will have its own water system to be operated by the Zamboanga City Water District similar to that of Labuan. He said works for the project are underway and nearing completion. Once completed, the project will serve potable water to residents of Vitali and neighboring barangays at 35 centavos per bidon, which is very much cheaper than the P5/bidon the residents spend for water at present.

Early on, Lobregat along with some city councilors had attended the installation rites for Vitali’s new parish priest Rev. Fr. Jonathan Berdejo and assistant parish priest Rev. Fr. Sumile with Archbishop Romulo Valles as the main celebrant.

From Vitali, the mayor and his party motored to Barangay Quiniput where he inaugurated 3 other projects—the archives building, concrete fence with iron gates and slope protection or embankment totalling almost P3 million at the Cristino M. Paragas Memorial Hospital.

Joining them were Quiniput barangay officials headed by Chairman Primitivo “Bibing” Paragas, community leaders and hospital personnel—four doctors and 18 nurses under Dr. Fernando T. Gestoso.

Dr. Gestoso was very much happy for the projects funded by the city government. With the archives building, he said the hospital’s medical records will no longer get soaked in the rain as they used in the past. He added that the embankment will also protect the hospital from getting flooded during heavy rains.

“I thank the mayor for all this assistance and I look forward to more projects as he promised,” Dr. Gestoso said, referring to Lobregat’s announcement that plans are afoot for the major rehabilitation of the Quiniput hospital.

Joining Lobregat in Vitali and Quiniput were Councilors Nonong Guingona, Charlie Mariano, Cesar Itarralde, Rudy Lim, Lilia Nuño, Rey Candido and Eddie Saavedra, Dr. Rodel Agbulos and Archbishop Valles who invoked God’s blessing on the projects. (Vi Larato)
