Zambo Hermosa stages Mascota

Mascota de Zamboanga 2009, a fashion show and competition of chabacano-inspired wardrobes took center stage, as the city’s Zamboanga Hermosa Festival entered its 6th day Wednesday.
Now on its 6th year, the Mascota is a mainstay in the Hermosa Festival, the city’s grandest annual celebration that highlights the city’s unique blend of multi-cultural heritage.
Mayor Celso Lobregat, in his message, thanked the 13 designers and their models who participated in the Mascota competition held at the Convention center of the Garden Orchid Hotel.
He said the Mascota has become an annual highlight in the Hermosa Festival since the time of his mother, the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat. “The Mascota is a presentation of wardrobe designs depicting the rich culture and tradition of Zamboanga City.”
The almost two hour-long fashion show and competition was attended by Congresspersons Beng Climaco of District I and Erbie Fabian of District II, members of the City Council, department heads and representatives from the different sectors and other national and local government agencies. Zamboangueños from other parts of the world including foreigners witnessed the presentation.
Meanwhile, the designer Usni Sali and his model Joey Albert Short bagged the top prize of P20,000 and a trophy. Second placer was designer Kurshidy Sahak and his model Angel Manlinao who received P10,000 and a trophy. Other participants received P4,000 consolation prizes each.
The wardrobes were judged according to the following design or creativity- 20%; craftsmanship- 20%; color combination- 20%, originality- 20% and impact—20%.
