Zamboanga’s two leading sardines companies Mega Fishing Corp. and Universal Canning, Inc. joined the International Food Exhibition (IFEX) Philippines 2009 on May 15-17 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Business Park Bay City in Pasay City.

The named brands Mega Sardines and Family Sardines held their own against products of more than 300 food manufacturing companies, from new and budding food exporters to major players in the Philippine food industry who participated in the food exhibition, winning the visitors attention and approval.

“Celebrate the flavors” is the theme of this year’s fair that plays well with both sardines canning companies’ sales pitch: priding themselves for the premium quality and taste of their products that come from the freshness of their catch.

Droves of people gathered at the SMX Convention Center on the last day for this never-to-be-missed event celebrating Filipino flavors. The first two days of the show were open only for registered buyers and trade visitors. An admission fee of P100 for the general public was worth a daylong food tasting adventure and chance to explore and discover an assortment of unique food products sourced and manufactured in the different regions of the Philippine archipelago.

The IFEX is one of Asia’s premier food trade shows. It is an annual trade show organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), an agency of the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry. This year marks its sixth edition with a remarkable selection of food products and services that cover beverages; meat and poultry; natural, herbal and organic products; biscuits, snacks and confectioneries; fine food and specialties; marine products; fresh and processed fruits and vegetables; as well as allied products and services.
