Metropolitan Cathedral
The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Zamboanga. Formerly, it was the Immaculate Conception Church until its reconstruction in 1998. Designed by foremost Zamboangueño architect Domingo Abarro III, it is considered the most modern and biggest throughout Mindanao. It is cruciform in structure with a candle-inspired facade. On the upper level is the main church surrounded by stained glass portraying the life of Mother Mary, Asian saints and the history of the diocese from its founding in 1910. At the lower level are the columbarium, day and adoration chapels, conference hall and baptistery. It is located at La Purisima Street.
